Tradescantia is a perennial plant and absolutely one of my favorites. It is super easy to grow, and it grows fast once it has been established.  The variegated parts of the leaves turn white during the warm seasons and pink during the cold seasons.  I have it growing outside (USDA plant hardiness zone 10) and it just loves to grow.
